Hello! My name is Robert DeCicco and I have the distinctive pleasure of teaching middle school science on Team Odyssey.   I've been teaching in this wonderful community since 2006 and am looking forward to the 2016-17 school year with enthusiasm!  I enjoy working with middle school students and believe that adolescence is an important developmental period in their lives.  I try to educate the whole student and hope my passion for life and wonderment of the world around us shines through in how I teach.

Background:  I grew up on Long Island and lived a short distance outside of New York City.  Sports were a big part of my childhood.  I loved baseball and was a 4-year-varsity starter at 2 different high schools.  I also played football and wrestled in high school.  I wasn't always the best student but I always enjoyed learning.  Growing up outside the city was great and helped shape who I am today!

Upon graduating from high school, I worked one year at Green Art Plumbing Supply company.  After that year of work, I enrolled at Nassau Community College and had a wonderful experience there.  In 2001, I graduated from Lehigh University with a B.A. in Psychology and a Biology minor.

I am a husband to a beautiful and supportive woman named Kellie.  I am a father to 2 energetic boys, Amelio and AJ.  For the past 2 years, we have resided in Milton.  I got into teaching because I love working with middle school students and enjoy making a difference in peoples lives.

Hobbies and Interests: My mind is in bloom!  I truly am passionate about life and, as a result, have numerous interests and hobbies.  Here is a quick list of some of the things I am interested in:

Sports-baseball, football, softball (I play and referee softball games,) World Cup and Barclays Premier Soccer, Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Music-  I love listening to pop, alternative and classical rock, trance and classical music.  I have taught myself how to play guitar and am learning how to play piano.  My youngest son AJ loves when I play music with him.  I love dancing and can be seen on the dance floor frequently making a complete and utter fool of myself.

Coin Collecting-  I collect old coins from 1965 and earlier.  I watch the precious metals (gold, silver, platinum and palladium) closely.

Ancient Civilizations-Egyptian, Mayan, Incan, Gobleki tepi, Nazca lines, Puma Punku, Machu Picchu, Graham Hancock and alternative theories of history.

Camping/Hiking/Survival Skills- I have hiked numerous mountains in Vermont and 7 of the Adirondack 46 peaks.  One of my goals is to climb all 46 peaks.  I can frequently be seen swimming at local watering holes.

Philosophy of Mind/The Brain/Neuroplasticity/Learning- I love learning about the brain and am fascinated with how the brain learns.  I'm particularly interested in the notion that the brain rewires it's circuitry depending upon our experiences.  Choose what you do wisely!  It changes your brain.

Reading and writing- I enjoy reading books, magazines, etc.  Reading is powerful!  I have learned many great things from books!  I write articles about many topics including education and politics.  I have also written several children's fables and hope to eventually publish a book.

Achievements:
I was the 1997 president of the Student Government Association of Nassau Community College.
I was offered a position on the 1992 US Olympic Team for European Handball.
I took 2nd place at the VT Open Grappling Tournament for the 145 pound weight class in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
I was accepted to Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine class ’05.
My children and wife love me (this is my greatest accomplishment of all!)
